The American Museum of Natural History has opted for a unique design choice with the inclusion of shotcrete instead of traditional poured-in-place or pre-molded concrete. Union contractors and the New York City District Council of Carpenters are using this method to create the formwork for concrete elements, eliminating the amount of wood wasted. As a result, the structure will have unified walls, ceilings, columns, and bridges forming a continuous, cave-like design.
