President,
NYC and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters

Paul Capurso is the president of the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters. He has over 30 years of experience in the union working as a rank-and-file member and holding various leadership positions throughout his career. As president, Paul is responsible for assisting in the operations of the over 20,000-member organization, comprised of nine local unions covering a wide range of trade specialties.

Born in Staten Island, Paul joined the District Council in 1987 at the age of 17. From the beginning, Paul wanted to be the best of the best and worked his way from journeyman to lead carpenter, foreman, general foreman, and to a superintendent for an interior systems contractor. In 1996, looking to become more involved, Paul became a part-time instructor teaching apprentices and journeypersons at the Carpenters Training Center while continuing to work in the field as a foreman.

Having committed himself to a path of lifelong learning, Paul sought out opportunities to excel and grow into more leadership positions. In 2000, Paul became a delegate for Local 157, a financial secretary in 2006, and a business representative in 2008, and was promoted to lead regional manager of Manhattan and Queens Rep Centers in 2011. At the same time, Paul also became a trustee to the Benefit Funds. In 2020, he was elected to the position of president.

Paul brings a wealth of tried and true experience from every level of his union membership. As president, Paul strives to utilize his vast experience to educate the membership and help the council succeed. He is committed to raising the standards for the working class and advocating for union values throughout New York City and beyond. Paul currently resides in Staten Island with his wife and two children.
